BUILT PROJECTS | OFFICES AT 129 CHE GUEVARA
OFFICES AT 129 CHE GUEVARA: A double storey, courtyarded, heritage building on a nil building line on the corner of Che Guevara (formerly Moore) and Umbilo Roads had been acquired by the property owning wing of NUMSA (Metal Workers Union) with an eye to converting it to offices for their Local and Regional wings. Offices are on the upper level where tea rooms and meeting rooms activate the balcony/verandah (over the pavement). Part of the verandah roof is peeled back and replaced with xluscent sheeting, rain-fed planters with creepers growing on perimeter metal screens serve to ameliorate the negative qualities of the space – noise, pigeons, exhaust fumes. Meeting rooms, a pause area/T kitchen, security, archives, plant rooms and 2 shops are on the ground floor. The 120 seater meeting room opens onto the mostly paved courtyard.
